Target Audience
The primary target for the scholarship program is ASHM Members:
• who are residents of Australia or New Zealand
• who attest to facing financial hardship
• who submit an abstract to the ASHM Conference
• who do not receive financial assistance from other sources to attend the conference
• who will incur high costs to travel to the conference

Late applications will be considered but will be assessed after applications received by the due date. Incomplete applications may be rejected. NEW: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scholarships for ASHM and Sexual Health Conferences
WA is in a unique position as it is a very large state covering huge distances with a predominant rural and
remote population. WA also has a significant indigenous community. WA has an epidemiology at odds with that seen in the eastern states. In order to encourage and showcase indigenous health research and support contribution from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers and researchers the ASHM Foundation and the Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine would like to offer two scholarships to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with research to present at either conference.
Each scholarship includes return travel to Perth, accommodation for the duration of the conferences and full joint conference registration including tickets to the Sexual Health welcome reception, joint conference
dinner and ASHM case presentation breakfast.
To apply for a scholarship the individual must:
• Email conferenceinfo@ashm.org.au for an application form
• Submit an abstract on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HIV related topics for presentation at either of
the conferences online at: ASHM Conference - www.ashm.org.au/ashm08/ or Sexual Health Conference - www.sexualhealthconference.com.au

• Email conferenceinfo@ashm.org.au and indicate how attendance at the conferences might benefit them
with their future work or in their community
• Write a report after the conferences and participate in an interview for use in publicizing the scholarship
program (information will be provided in due course regarding this)
Deadline for applications is 23 May 2008
