This year has brought many challenges to the way we work but has also provided opportunities to explore innovative ways of working together. Catholic Church Health Services (CCHS), the Australasian Society for HIV, Viral Hepatitis and Sexual Health Medicine (ASHM) and PNG Sexual Health Society conducted our new blended Clinical Mentor and Clinical Update Training for HIV and sexual health workers from 17-19 November 2020. 30 participants attended the workshop at the Catholic Bishops Centre in Port Moresby, with COVID-19 safe precautions in place.
The training was delivered face-to-face by CCHS Clinical Facilitators in PNG with remote sessions by ASHM’s Clinical Advisers in Australia. 98 experienced health workers have now been trained under the SRH Integration Project to provide clinical mentoring for HIV and sexual health within their workplace. The approach of upskilling local health workers in clinical mentoring supports the National Health Plan in strengthening of health systems and the health workforce. Participants were also trained on the new national HIV and STI management guidelines during the three-day workshop.
