ASHM President Dr Mark Bloch announces new CEO:
I am pleased to announce that the ASHM Board has appointed Alexis Apostolellis to be its next CEO.
Alexis’s appointment was based on a unanimous recommendation from an interview panel after a rigorous recruitment process which featured strong applications from several candidates.
Alexis comes to ASHM from a background in both the commercial and not-for-profit sectors. Most recently Alexis was the CEO of the Australian branch of Marie Stopes International (MSI) which involved the operation of a pharmaceutical company as well as 17 clinics across Australia. Before this Alexis was the Chief Operating Officer of MSI Asia Pacific and Australia with responsibility for regional finance and operations.
Alexis arrived in Australia from South Africa in 2008 where his original training was in chemical engineering. As well as his work with MSI he has considerable experience in the not for profit sector, including the establishment of HIV Management Solutions, a business unit of the Wits Health Consortium, itself part of the University of the Witswatersrand in South Africa.
Alexis impressed the panel with his proven track record in negotiating positive funding outcomes as well as his strong communication and team management skills. The ASHM Board and staff welcome Alexis to ASHM and look forward to working with him to continue and develop the achievements of Levinia Crooks. Alexis will take up his position on 2 July 2018.
I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that Scott McGill has been appointed ASHM’s Deputy CEO and Programs Director. Scott has been Acting ASHM CEO for the past year, taking up the position when Levinia’s illness meant she could not continue and he continued in that role following Levinia’s death on 16th October 2017. The ASHM Board would like to express its gratitude for the calm and effective way Scott has led ASHM through what has been an extremely difficult and distressing time for ASHM’s staff and supporters. We are delighted that he will continue to be an integral part of ASHM’s leadership team.
