On 14 November, ASHM celebrated its 30th anniversary at our new office in the heart of Sydney. The night began with a panel discussion reflecting on the achievements and milestones of ASHM’s remarkable history. Panelists included Edwina Wright, Sharon Lewin, Andrew Grulich, Liz Dax and Jenny Hoy, as well as Ben Cowie as moderator, who did a wonderful job facilitating the discussion. Foundational members John Ziegler and Alex Wodak also participated in the conversation, reflecting on early years of ASHM’s formation. Following the panel, the ASHM Annual General Meeting was held, with the new board members for 2020 announced. The newly elected board members include Professor Charles Gilks from Queensland, Doctor Jason Ong from Victoria and Dr Janine Trevillyan also from Victoria.
The night ended with a catered reception including drinks, a decadent grazing table and a photo slideshow highlighting key moments in ASHM’s history. ASHM CEO, Alexis Apostolellis, announced three new honorary life members, with recipients of this prestigious award including Professor Jennifer Hoy, Associate Professor Catherine O’Connor and Susan Mason. An honour board was also unveiled, featuring the names of past ASHM presidents and Honorary Life Members. Thank you to all those who joined us for the celebration. It was a lovely night to help mark the beginning of our journey into ASHM’s fourth decade.
