Synopsis

This update will provide GPs with enhanced knowledge and skills for STI testing and management in their practice, with a particular focus on chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis. .

Event Description

In the ACT, chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis are on the rise. From 2015-2018, chlamydia notifications increased each year, gonorrhoea notifications more than doubled and syphilis notifications more than tripled. These trends appear to be continuing in 2019, based on notification data received by ACT Health for the first half of 2019. GPs play a critical role in the detection and management of STIs in the ACT.

Through presentations and case studies this update will provide GPs with enhanced knowledge and skills for STI testing and management in their practice, with a particular focus on chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis.

Objectives of the course include:

- Identify appropriate patients to routinely test for STIs and confidently take a brief sexual health history

- Describe the clinical presentation of common STIs

- Diagnose and treat common STIs

- Initiate contact tracing and patient referrals where necessary

- Understand the impact of stigma and discrimination on client outcomes

This course is funded by ACT Health.

Registration Cancellations:

Registration cancellations and amendments must be notified in writing to ASHM. Cancellations received before September 10, 2019 will not incur a cancellation fee. Cancellations received in writing after 10 September 2019 will incur a $100 cancellation fee. This fee may be waived in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of ASHM.

Substitutions:

As an alternative to cancellation, your registration may be transferred to another person without incurring any penalty. ASHM must be advised of the transfer in writing. Please email the name, position, phone and email address of the new delegate to education@ashm.org.au.

Contact:

Sabdy Ma

T: 0411 539 615

E: Sabdy.Ma@ashm.org.au
