ASHM workforce education is free-of-charge and accredited for CPD where applicable through relevant professional bodies such as RACGP, Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), Australian College of Nursing and Australian Practice Nurses Association (APNA).

As a result of COVID-19 restrictions, most education activities are currently delivered online. ASHM is continually working to ensure a high quality, interactive learning experience on all platforms, including online. Face-to-face modalities will be offered where possible.

 

Facilitated online training:

ASHM courses are currently being delivered online with experienced clinical advisors and facilitators.  Our HIV facilitated online sessions include interactive presentations and online tools to ensure an engaging learning experience.

This activity is designed for general practitioners, other community-based medical practitioners, and nurse practitioners to effectively diagnose, manage and treat HIV within their primary care setting. 

To become a HIV s100 Prescriber, general practitioners, other community-based medical practitioners, and nurse practitioners will need to either:

  1. Completing the HIV Prescriber Course (including pre course requisite, 2-day onsite course/4-week online course, post-course assessment and reinforcing activity)
  2. Applying to receive recognition for prior experience

Educational sessions for current HIV prescribers and other primary care clinicians with an interest in HIV, on managing patients in the primary care setting and the decision to commence a patient on antiretroviral therapy. The prescriber evening updates are conducted through various formats, including interactive case discussions, sector updates and conference report backs. Case scenarios are developed by ASHM clinical advisors or local experts to meet the identified learning needs of ASHMs HIV prescribers, which vary from each State and Territory. 
 

Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours 
CPD: Allocated 4 CPD activity points (activity number varies) in the RACGP QI&CPD Program for the 2020-2022 triennium. HIV s100 prescribers will be awarded 2 CPD point for attending. 

 

These trainings will provide GPs and primary care clinicians in Australia an update on HIV and strategies available for the prevention of HIV transmission, exploring how to screen for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) eligibility, how to prescribe PrEP, and the best practice for monitoring patients on PrEP.

  • HIV, PEP and PrEP Update for Primary Care

Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours

CPD: Allocated 4 CPD activity points (activity number varies) in the RACGP QI&CPD Program for the 2020-2022 triennium. HIV s100 prescribers will be awarded 2 CPD point for fully attending each session. 

This training will provide participants with an overview of the chronic disease needs of people living with HIV and aims to increase the capacity of the primary care workforce to engage in HIV management.

Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours

CPD: Allocated 4 CPD activity points (activity number TBC) in the RACGP QI&CPD Program for the 2020-2022 triennium. HIV s100 prescribers will be awarded 2 CPD point for fully attending training session. 

 

This course will assist nurses and GPs to identify, test and care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who are living with, or at risk of, HIV.

Duration: 1.5 to 2.5 hours 
CPD: Allocated 4 CPD activity points (activity number 203442) in the RACGP QI&CPD Program for the 2020-2022 triennium. HBV s100 prescribers will be awarded 1 CPD point for attending. ACRRM accredited for 2 core PDP points.

 

The sessions provide an update on important emerging developments in HIV and STIs, discuss the applicability of results from a journal article to patient population, and give opportunities for clinicians to integrate the latest evidence on a range of clinical topics into diagnosis and management strategies in their clinical settings.

HIV PrEP Prescribing in General Practice

A collaboration between NSW STIPU and ASHM, this online learning module, accessed on ThinkGP platform, provides an overview of PrEP, and includes a patient case study to help GPs familiarise themselves with taking a sexual health history prescribing PrEP, and providing patient education.

HIV PrEP Update for Primary Care Providers Webinar

These training sessions provide GPs, Nurses and Health Professionals working in primary care an update on strategies available for the prevention of HIV transmission, focusing on prevention particularly Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).

Directed at aged care and community nurses, this online learning module has been designed as an introduction to HIV, with a focus on the health challenges of HIV in ageing.

This webinar will provide non-dental health care professionals (HCPs) with knowledge and tools to encourage discussions about oral health with their patients/clients that could lead to regular oral health check by dental health care professionals.
