Viral Hepatitis Courses
Courses in viral hepatitis educate participants in the basic science of hepatitis B and C, treatment and monitoring, as well as the lifestyle factors surrounding management of patients with chronic viral hepatitis.
Courses can be delivered at an introductory or advanced level and in the form of an evening update or a one- or two-day course.
The aim of the introductory course is to provide an understanding of the main concepts of chronic viral hepatitis and its impact within Australia. It covers transmission, epidemiology, natural history and quality-of-life issues that might affect the individual and the community.
The aim of the advanced course is to provide an understanding of the initial work-up of the client, including risk assessment, antiviral therapy and counselling, and psychological assessment.
ASHM is currently conducting a pilot of community prescribing for HCV and providing support and training.
