In Australia, 19 May 2008 marks the first day of National Hepatitis Awareness week. Awareness raising events and activities will continue throughout the week in all states and territories.

The World Hepatitis Alliance is requesting your support for World Hepatitis Day by signing up to the campaign on the website (http://www.aminumber12.org) and forwarding this information to your contacts and colleagues.

ASHM will launch the eagerly awaited Hepatitis B monograph on 19 May. This resource resulted from collaboration between ASHM and The Cancer Council of NSW. It is available online from May 19 at http://www.ashm.org.au/publications/ with print distribution to follow.

ASHM has also arranged for an article on Hepatitis B preferred terminology to be written by Sam Galhenage, John Olynyk, Simone Strasser; Darrell Crawford, and Geoff McCaughan. It will be circulated on Hepatitis Australia's Hepatitis B Forum online, and is available on the ASHM website at http://www.ashm.org.au/news/307/11/

Several educational events have also been organised by ASHM to increase awareness of hepatitis C and related management issues, including a session 'Managing the Patient with Hepatitis C' at Sydney Practice Nurse Clinical Education Conference on Saturday 24 May at Homebush. Practice nurses must be registered for the conference to attend this session, details are available at http://www.pnce.com.au/

An Update for HCV prescribers, nurses and allied health in Sydney on 27 May will focus on 'Individualisation of therapy', 'Antiviral therapy in cirrhotics' followed by case study presentation.

ASHM is also pleased to provide a new training course in hepatitis C for practice nurses on 21 June.
