International Team Prepares for the 2008 ASHM Annual Conference
Post date: 29 April 2008
Preparations are underway for the Conference and Associated Events
The International Division's preparations are underway for the rapidly approaching 2008 ASHM Annual Conference in Perth in September. This year we are hosting a variety of courses and meetings for (and in partnership with) our international delegates, while also developing the conference international stream, an integral component of the annual conference program.
We anticipate welcoming delegates from Asian and Pacific countries, including PNG, Fiji, the Solomon Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, New Caledonia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Timor-Leste and Indonesia, to this year's program.
We will again run the very successful International Short Course in HIV and Related Conditions, and will host the second Regional Professional Societies Think Tank. Other related events being planned prior to the conference include meetings of the Asia Pacific Neuro-AIDS Consortium and the Asia Pacific Pediatric HIV AIDS Consortium, a Social Research Workshop and the third Papua/PNG Social and Behavioural Research Workshop. Details of these ancillary events are to be confirmed. Proposed topics for the international stream of the conference include sessions on the interface of global and local policy; HIV in Papua New Guinea; the future of testing and counselling methods; harm reduction in the international setting; HIV and TB co-infection; and a session convened by AusAID. Planning updates will be forthcoming in future editions of ASHM News.
