Partnership to deliver education for GPs in Victoria
ASHM has entered into a new Victorian partnership with the GP Divisions of Victoria to deliver general practitioner education in HIV and viral hepatitis. This project was previously based at the Alfred Hospital, but effective from January 2007, is housed at the GPDV offices in Carlton.
Michelle Wills, who many in Victoria will already know, is managing the project which is currently going through a transition phase. Michelle has been running a very successful program introducing GPs to hepatitis C.
Positioning the project in the community, rather than a tertiary hospital makes practical sense. It allows for the program to be developed hand-in-hand with other GP education initiatives. It will provide a logical path from the very introductory work Michelle has been working on to more advanced education programs in viral hepatitis and HIV medicine developed by ASHM.
Michelle has been working closely with the ASHM staff in Sydney to ensure that the CME program is administered in a seamless way, leaving Michelle and the Victorian based clinicians to concentrate on the delivery of training programs. The Alfred Hospital staff will continue to play a central role in the teaching program and oversight of the program through the National Clinical Sub-Committee and project steering committee, where they are joined by primary care providers and other ASHM members.
