The Clinton Foundation HIV/AIDS Initiative (CHAI) works with partner governments in more than sixty countries on five continents to help bring effective, high-quality HIV treatment and care to people living with HIV/AIDS worldwide. Free antiretroviral (ARV) medication and patient care are now widely available in clinics throughout our partner countries. These local programs need highly experienced nurses, nurse practitioners, nurse mid-wives and medical doctors to mentor their colleagues in the identification of infected patients, the provision of comprehensive care including ART, and integration of HIV treatment into primary care. In a busy resource-poor clinic, assistance in management is indispensable.
Comprehensive Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) programs are a critical need globally. Highly skilled mentors could have a significant impact on the success of these programs.
Purpose:
The goal of the clinical mentoring program is to assist our partner governments in the creation of more self-sufficient, sustainable HIV identification and treatment centers. The PMTCT Mentor will be in a position to dramatically influence identification of HIV positive pregnant women, appropriate treatment and/or prophylaxis, timely and effective interventions during labor and delivery, and proper treatment and follow-up of exposed infants.
Responsibilities:
- Mentor clinicians in the theoretical and practical matters of PMTCT
- Assist local staff to identify and close gaps in identification and care of HIV positive pregnant women
- Work side by side with local colleagues to ensure they have the knowledge, skill and motivation to provide high-quality PMTCT services
- Assist local clinicians in early identification and treatment of HIV positive infants
- Assist local HCW's in identification and treatment of malnourished mothers and infants
- Ensure that a practical system is in place to track HIV positive and exposed mother-infant pairs
- Assist local HCW's with procedures to minimize loss to follow-up
- Provide the Clinton Foundation country team with information related to on-the-ground conditions impacting PMTCT

- Strong knowledge and experience with HIV/AIDS treatment
- Knowledge of clinical issues related to pregnancy, labor and delivery and newborn care
- Proficiency in English language
- Ability to undertake the training of adult learners
- Understanding of healthcare systems in resource-limited settings

Education/Experience:
- Licensed physician, nurse, nurse practitioner or nurse midwife

Other Attributes:
- Strong leadership skills
