HIV Courses

HIV virus particles group - ©Russell KightleyCourses in HIV Medicine educate participants in the science of HIV, current pharmacology, antiretroviral therapy, monitoring, toxicities and the complex care needs of patients.

Courses include evening updates, an introductory day course and the Short Course in HIV Medicine, which consists of one distance-learning module, six face-to-face modules, and one advanced learning module. The advanced learning module allows participants to develop further expertise through advanced reading, a clinical placement, online CME activities or an alternate learning option of their choice.

Completion of the Short Course in HIV Medicine and the associated case assessment enables medical practitioners to apply for the right to prescribe s100 drugs. ASHM courses meet national standards for HIV s100 general practitioner training, as adopted by the Australian National Council on AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases and the Inter-Governmental Committee on AIDS, Hepatitis and Related Diseases in 1998.

The Short Course in HIV Medicine is also available via distance-learning through the ASHM/Alfred Education Program.
