ASHM Educational Activites
The content of ASHM courses is tailored towards specific audiences, such as: medical practitioners needing a general overview of HIV medicine; medical practitioners who require authority to prescribe s100 HIV drugs; treatment officers and other health care workers in community-based HIV service organisations; pharmacists in hospitals and private practice; staff in pharmaceutical drug companies; nurses; and social workers.
Courses are developed and delivered using medical experts, experienced trainers and people living with HIV/AIDS and/or hepatitis. Delivery methods include interactive specialist presentations, case discussions and facilitated small group discussions.
Fees
ASHM's continuing medical education and training programs are financed from a number of sources. Most are subsidised by state/territory public health authorities. Some are not funded and a participant fee is charged. Participants are eligible for financial assistance from ASHM's Course Scholarships Program or other sources such as NSW Health Workforce Development Program (WDP).
Access to training
To enable access to education outside face-to-face training, especially for health care workers who practise outside metropolitan centres, ASHM provides the Short Course in HIV Medicine in a distance-learning format, resources such as kits, videos and CDs, and information online via the website.
