Update in Hepatitis B for General Practitioners and Nurses
22/05/12 - 22/05/12
Newcastle
One third of the estimated 170,000 Australians living with CHB remain undiagnosed. Identifying and monitoring people with chronic hepatitis B infection allows for the prevention of or timely identification of cancer and liver disease, and the institution of effective treatment. Without intervention, 15-25% of people living with chronic hepatitis B will die from complications including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Recent international evidence suggests appropriate treatment for CHB can reduce the risk of liver cancer by over 50% in only a few years.
The evening will be presented by: Dr Brian Hughes MBBS DipSHM FAChSHM FRACP Sexual Health and Infectious Diseases Physician, Conjoint Senior Lecturer Newcastle University, Clinical Director Sexual Health, Newcastle, Tamworth, Taree, Newcastle Community Health Centre.
