2006 Reportback
The 2006 ASHM Conference was held from 11 - 14 October 2006 in Melbourne, Victoria Australia.
The in-house conference team also organised the Australasian Sexual Health Conference which ran back-to-back with the ASHM Conference. The large number of attendees at both conferences and the synergy developed with the conference program on Wednesday 11 October, the overlap day attests to the success of both conferences.
Delegate numbers were higher than previous years, 1091 people attend both conferences and were at the cross over day on Wednesday 11 October. Of these 1091 delegates 666 attended ASHM only. 865 delegates attended ASHM only and both ASHM & Sexual Health jointly. This is around 80 more than in 2005. 226 attended the Australasian Sexual Health Conference only.
The conference did receive quite a large amount of media attention. This could also be due to the combining of the ASHM and Sexual Health Conference where interest in one of the conferences program items spilled into interest into aspects of the other.
The venue for the conference was the Carlton Crest Hotel, Melbourne. The Gala Conference Dinner that was a joint dinner with the two conference attendees plus attendees of the Australian Centre for HIV & Hepatitis Virology Research was held at the National Gallery International. The evening was a great success with all enjoying themselves.
