May 12th is the birthday of Florence Nightingale, widely considered the founder of modern nursing.
It is also International Nurses Day. This is a day celebrated around the world for the important work that nurses do.
Around Australia, various nursing ceremonies will be conducted this week.
ASHM thanks all nurses for their hard work and dedication, particularly those caring for the most marginalised communities in Australia, as it is often these populations who bear the greatest burden from blood-borne viruses and STIs.
Happy International Nurses Day!
