16 October 2014

The first Australian STI Management Guidelines designed for GPs and primary health care nurses have been launched at RACGP's GP14 Conference in Adelaide and the Australasian Sexual Health Conference in Sydney.

The Guidelines are an online resource designed to provide concise information to support the prevention, testing, diagnosis, management and treatment for sexually transmissible infections.

The website consists of three sections: Management of STI by Condition or by Syndromes; and testing guidance for Populations and Situations. The website also contains useful links and resources, such as an STI Testing tool, taking a sexual history and contact tracing, as well as patient fact sheets.

ASHA, a committee of ASHM, developed the Guidelines with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health. RACGP, AChSHM, ASID, APNA, FPAA, AIDA and ACNP supported the development of the Guidelines to ensure they reflect best practice and are presented in the most appropriate format for primary care.
