Learning objectives are based on the AHA’s Practice Standards for the Hepatology Nurse (2015) and the AHA’s Consensus-based Nursing Guidelines for the Care of Patients with Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Advanced Liver Disease and Hepatocellular Carcinoma (2012). The course is endorsed by the Australian Liver Association (ALA), Australian Primary Health Care Nurses Association (APNA) and the Australian College of Nursing (ACN).

Module 1:

Module 1 is an interactive online module covering the fundamental concepts of hepatitis B and is made available to participants before attending the face-to-face course.

Module 2:

Module 2 is a two-day, face-to-face course providing nurses with advanced practical skills and knowledge in hepatitis B nursing.

Module 2 expands on the issues covered in Module 1, including epidemiology, vaccination, testing, and explores the cultural context of hepatitis B nursing. It then covers assessment and treatment; followed by some in-depth clinical updates on advanced liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma and co-infection.

Issues specific to key priority populations are explored, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, antenatal care and hepatitis B in children. The final session will consolidate learning with a discussion about models of care.

This course is free for NSW nurses to attend. Nurses from other states and territories are welcome to attend by paying a registration fee.
