Hepatitis B & C is a viral infection that affects the liver. The rate of newly diagnosed hepatitis C infection in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population in 2014 was 5 times higher than the non‑Indigenous population. Without appropriate monitoring and treatment, damage to the liver can lead to mild, moderate or serious liver disease and, in some cases, liver cancer and liver failure.
